Meet Our Team

Dr. Tara Bell

Dr. Bell grew up in Minnesota and is happy to now call Cary home. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Notre Dame in 1998. While at Notre Dame, she was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society and is currently an active member. She then completed her dental training at Marquette University School of Dentistry in 2002, where she received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree.

Dr. Bell is committed to providing the latest advances in dental technology to her patients, and has completed courses at the Pankey Institute and the Las Vegas Institute. She is currently an active member in the regional chapter of the Seattle Study Club. This invitation-only organization focuses on team treatment planning and improving dental knowledge to achieve ideal and comprehensive patient care. In addition to serving her patients, she is also a volunteer dentist at the Samaritan Health Center, which provides dental care to homeless women and children. Away from the dental office, she enjoys running, tennis, and golf.

Holly Rucker

Dental Hygienist

Holly grew up in Goldsboro, North Carolina and now lives in Apex with her husband, 2 sons, and her vizsla dog Tucker.  She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1997 with a BA in Communications.  She spent the next 6 years as a flight attendant for United Airlines, serving both North American and International routes, and was based in Chicago, IL and then in Washington, DC. Holly went back to school in 2003, and earned her AAS in Dental Hygiene from Wake Technical Community College.  She graduated at the top of her class and was active in College Government as the Health Sciences Campus Senator and served as Vice President of the Student Dental Hygiene Association.  She received awards from the ADA Foundation and the NC Dental Hygiene Academy of Advanced Studies. Holly served a 6 year term as alumni member of the Wake Tech Dental Hygiene Advisory Committee.  When not at work, Holly enjoys trips to Emerald Isle, cheering for the Tar Heels, and serving in the children’s program at her church. “I absolutely love working here.  The patients are great and the office is simply gorgeous– what a treat to be a part of this family!” Holly prides herself in thorough dental cleanings and assessments, and will offer suggestions and recommendations of her findings.  The hygiene rooms are equipped with massaging patient chairs, cable TV, and digital radiographs.

Shianne Webb

Dental Hygienist

Shianne grew up in Wilmington, North Carolina and now lives in Durham. She graduated from Oakwood University in Alabama in 2013 with a BS in Biology. Later, she attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she graduated in 2016 with a BS in Dental Hygiene. She served as Vice President of her hygiene class and was a member of the Singulums, the dental school’s acapella singing group. She graduated with honors, and was inducted into the Sigma Phi Alpha National Dental Hygiene Honors society. Shianne is very active with her church, where she enjoys singing for the residents at Woodland Terrace. She also enjoys photography, reading, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Claudia LaSmith

Office Manager

Claudia grew up in Strasburg, Ohio and later in Greensboro, North Carolina. She attended the Dental Assisting program at Guilford Technical Community College and graduated in 2000. Claudia has had additional training with the Nash Institute and Levin Group where she was educated by top dental professionals. She graduated in 2014, completing her Fellowship in Dental Office Management from AADOM, making her 1 of 6 dental managers in North Carolina to have completed her fellowship. She was nominated as Office Manager of the Year in 2014. This made her one of the top 30 Dental Office Managers in the nation. She is a board member of the AADOM Triangle Area Chapter and was nominated Treasurer. In her spare time Claudia loves to spend time with her husband and family, and enjoys taking long walks with her dog Elle in local area parks. Cooking and listening to music are her favorite past times. Claudia’s dedication to providing office and team support, as well as high quality customer care, have had a strong influence in our office and continues to make our dental team strive for excellence.

Jamie Matthews

Treatment Coordinator

Jamie was born and raised in Northern California and worked for over 10 years there in education and finance. She moved to North Carolina with her husband in 2010 and continued a career focused on customer service. In 2013 she extended her interpersonal skills into the dental field when she joined Bell Family Dentistry. Jamie received her Intraoral Radiography Certificate from Wake AHEC -UNC Chapel Hill School of Dentistry in 2014. She is currently enrolled in Wake Technical Community College, studying for an AAS Degree in Business. Jamie’s kind and cheerful personality lends to our office’s warm atmosphere. Both adults and children immediately feel at home when they meet her. She specializes in patient appointment scheduling and verifying patient insurance benefits. Jamie enjoys spending time with her husband and family, which include her two adorable Rat Terriers, Lizzy and Lucy. Jamie also enjoys participating in 5K walk/runs, cooking healthy delicious meals, and has recently discovered a love and talent for skeet shooting at her local gun club.

 Ashley Mitchell

Dental Hygienist

Ashley joined Bell Family Dentistry in March 2017. She grew up in Louisburg, a quaint town in the northeastern part of North Carolina. She now resides in Durham with her cat Layne. Her interest in dental hygiene began back in a high school health class. The more she learned about the field, the more she became convinced it was perfect for her. She enrolled in the Dental Hygiene Program at Halifax Community College and graduated in 2012 with honors as a member of the Dean’s List.


Ashley is experienced in treating a variety of patients, from children to seniors to patients with special needs. She prides herself in getting to know each patient and creating a soothing experience for them. She is working on becoming proficient in Spanish and spends her free time as a volunteer minister serving the Spanish-speaking community. In addition, she enjoys art, cleaning, dancing, traveling, and helping people.
